Trials and Temptations.

“What happened to you?” is a question I have been bombarded with the past several months of my life when people discover I have switched gears in my political views, my theology, and as many people who are close to me have pointed out, my overall personality. I feel as if I should explain my journey over the past year.

My previous life as a “Christian”.

I became engaged with several conservative groups, writing articles for them, spreading what I thought was my purpose in life. While I was doing this, I really did consider myself to be a Christian. I attended church once a week, never denying that God was real, etcetera. However, there’s one thing I know now that I did not before, and it is summed up by this quote by Paul Washer about people who do not live the Christian life:

“[They say] ‘We would never say the Lord’s not number one! We would never say that this or that is more important than God, we would never say that!’ [God] says you say it, not with your mouth but with your life”

The motivation of mainstream conservatism has always been to share its ideas by opposing the “other side” through methods of wit and mockery.

I lived in a way that made others see my politics more than the Holy Spirit. I truly believed that my purpose in life was to do politics instead of obeying the Great Commission. I had political opinions that were in direct contrast to what I claimed to believe. I believed that this nation was founded by very godly men, that…
